A New Life for Used Tubing | T-ALL Inspection Advances OCTG Technology Innovation to Make Used Tubing a Preferred Solution for Gathering Pipelines

In surface pipeline operations for oil, water, and gas transportation, pipeline leakage and corrosion have long been major challenges affecting oilfield operations. Reusing repaired used tubing is a common solution for oilfield surface gathering and transportation pipelines. However, used tubing with standard thread connections cannot meet the gas-tightness requirements of gathering pipelines, while conventional gas-tight premium connections are relatively costly. Therefore, how to balance sealing performance and economic cost has become a technical bottleneck that urgently needs to be addressed in surface pipeline construction.

In response to this industry challenge, the OCTG team of T-ALL Inspection worked together with the client to develop a new gas-tight connection — the TADM-1 Opposed Shoulder Connection — and successfully achieved its first field application. With excellent connection reliability and strong site adaptability, this connection type effectively solves the balance between gas-tight connection performance and economic benefits in the reuse of used tubing for gathering pipelines. It has been highly recognized by the client and designated as the preferred solution for surface gathering and transportation pipelines.

Excellent Mechanical Performance

Compared with standard round threads, it features faster thread engagement, lower risk of cross-threading, stronger resistance to bending, torsion, and high pressure. The make-up operation is more intuitive, making it easier to control construction quality on site and significantly reducing the risk of human error.

Leakage Prevention and Corrosion Resistance

High sealing performance is achieved through metal-to-metal inclined surface interference fitting. Meanwhile, the internal coating fully covers the inner wall without gaps, further improving corrosion resistance.

Significant Cost Reduction

With lower processing costs, it offers stronger economic advantages compared with premium gas-tight threads. Based on application cases, it has helped the client reduce overall costs by more than 50%.

Full-Process Tubing Processing Service

Meanwhile, T-ALL Inspection provides clients with full-process services for used tubing processing. During project implementation, the team focused on key procedures such as coupling processing, pipe body inspection, thread machining, and internal coating, creating an integrated collaborative operation model of “inspection–processing–repair–coating.” This ensures controllable quality and efficient coordination across all stages, fully supporting the promotion and application of the TADM-1 Opposed Shoulder Connection.
