T-ALL Inspection Completes First Full-Process Inventory Casing Inspection Delivery at an Oilfield in Kazakhstan

Recently, T-ALL Inspection’s Kazakhstan operations team successfully completed a dedicated inspection project for inventory casing at a local oilfield, marking the first high-standard delivery of a full-process casing inspection service in the region. With zero quality objections, the team received written recognition from the client. The successful execution of the project not only established a critical barrier for casing string integrity and compliant oilfield commissioning, but also further strengthened T-ALL Inspection’s localized, integrated service capabilities in Kazakhstan.

A large quantity of casing at the oilfield had been stored outdoors for an extended period. Due to prolonged exposure to wind, sand, significant temperature fluctuations and other environmental factors, the casing showed various quality defects, including thread damage, wall corrosion, body deformation and damaged thread protectors. If such casing were run downhole without rigorous inspection and screening, it could pose serious risks such as casing string leakage and failure.

To identify and eliminate these risks before commissioning, the oilfield selected a professional service provider through an open evaluation process to conduct systematic quality screening of all inventory casing, preventing defective tubulars from being run into the wellbore at the source.

During project execution, the field team faced multiple practical challenges, mainly involving stringent standards, harsh operating conditions and strict project controls.

  • Stringent inspection standards: The project was carried out in strict accordance with the oilfield’s dedicated technical specifications in Kazakhstan. The tolerance for defect identification and data assessment was extremely limited, placing demanding requirements on both equipment accuracy and personnel competency.

  • Complex field conditions: The project site was located in a remote outdoor area characterized by heavy winds, blowing sand and significant temperature variations. The casing was stored across dispersed locations, making material handling and transportation particularly challenging.

  • Dual control of schedule and quality: The team had to align with the oilfield’s commissioning schedule while ensuring that every casing joint was individually verified and fully documented. Maintaining closed-loop quality control during large-volume inspection operations therefore presented considerable pressure.

In response to these challenges, the team leveraged its extensive overseas and localized project delivery experience to rapidly implement a tailored inspection solution. Three key capabilities ensured the high-quality execution of the entire inspection process.

  • Full specification coverage: The inspection capability covered mainstream casing grades and sizes commonly used at the oilfield, including 5 1/2"-J55/N80 and 9 5/8"-N80, enabling comprehensive inspection of the oilfield’s conventional casing inventory.

  • Integrated precision inspection process: The inspection workflow integrated thread verification, drift testing, micron-level dimensional measurement, surface inspection, thread protector protection and defect classification. Professional precision measuring instruments and non-destructive testing equipment were deployed to ensure that inspection data for every casing joint was accurate and fully traceable.

  • Precise adaptation to local standards: The operations team has a strong understanding of local oilfield technical requirements and acceptance specifications, enabling it to develop customized inspection solutions. Complete and traceable inspection records were maintained throughout the project to fully satisfy the client’s verification and audit requirements.

The project covered a total of 696 joints of inventory casing, of which 20 joints with serious quality defects were successfully identified and removed from service. This eliminated casing string integrity risks associated with long-term storage at the source and established a robust quality barrier for the safe and compliant commissioning of the oilfield.

At the same time, by accurately distinguishing repairable casing from casing requiring scrapping, the project also helped the oilfield reduce casing procurement costs, delivering both safety benefits and economic value.

The client monitored and witnessed the entire inspection and acceptance process and issued a written acceptance document, commending T-ALL Inspection’s professional capabilities and service performance.
