Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are significant precursors to ozone, photochemical smog, and haze pollution. Some VOCs are also toxic and carcinogenic, posing hazards to human health. The emission of VOCs has become a critical and difficult issue in China's air pollution prevention and control, making the management of VOCs an urgent task. LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) is an optimal technology for controlling fugitive emissions from process equipment and pipelines in the petrochemical industry. The standardized implementation of LDAR can significantly reduce unorganized emissions of VOCs from leaking process equipment and pipelines.

On September 23, 2024, the LDAR team of the Tightness Testing Branch of T-ALL Inspection arrived at Ningxia Yufeng Chemical Co., Ltd. to carry out leak detection and repair work for volatile organic compounds. Ningxia Yufeng Chemical Co., Ltd. boasts a 150,000 tons/year ammonia synthesis production plant and a 90,000 tons/year LNG production plant, which are projects encouraged by the current national policy for resource comprehensive utilization and green and low-carbon circular economy. Its production technology and comprehensive energy consumption are among the leading levels in the domestic industry. The LDAR work was conducted by qualified professionals in accordance with national technical specifications and workflow regulations related to LDAR, such as "HJ 1230-2021 Technical Guidelines for Leak Detection and Repair of Volatile Organic Compounds in Industrial Enterprises" and "HJ 733-2014 Technical Guidelines for Detection of Volatile Organic Compounds Emitted from Leaks and Open Liquid Surfaces". The work included process area division, pipeline material analysis, identification of controlled seal points, photography and archiving, establishment and debugging of the LDAR database management platform, on-site leak detection and re-testing.

The detection covered all process equipment in the coke oven gas unit and natural gas unit of Ningxia Yufeng Chemical's plant area, as well as various storage tanks and utility pipelines. The LDAR team of T-ALL Inspection worked closely with the client, overcame many difficulties such as tight schedules and high temperatures, and formulated a detailed technical plan. By regularly compiling on-site detection progress schedules, the detection personnel of each production unit were conscientious and responsible, strictly adhered to detection standards, worked overtime without complaint, and stuck to their posts to catch up with the schedule. The field supervisor stayed on site throughout the process to ensure the quality of detection, preventing any omissions or substandard detection. Whether the monitoring points were above pipelines or in narrow spaces, they were all inspected one by one. The members of the T-ALL Inspection LDAR team faced difficulties without hesitation, slackness, or ambiguity. With their excellent work style, they completed the detection task with high quality, high standards, and high efficiency.

As of September 30, 2024, T-ALL Inspection successfully completed the 2024 annual VOCs leak detection and repair work for Ningxia Yufeng Chemical. A total of 5,268 controlled seal points were documented and inspected, with 97 exceedance leak points detected. Upon detecting the exceedance seal points, T-ALL Inspection immediately contacted the client to arrange for equipment repairs. Through the LDAR work, it not only reduced the pollution of the atmospheric environment by VOCs but also effectively repaired the leakage hazards of the equipment, saving unnecessary material losses. This provided a strong guarantee for the smooth development of the client's safety and environmental protection work and the normal operation of the equipment, achieving a win-win situation in terms of economic and environmental benefits. T-ALL Inspection solves leakage issues for clients by providing comprehensive leakage detection technology solutions for the entire lifecycle of process industry facilities, helping clients prevent, identify, and resolve leaks, and enabling the creation of "zero-leak factories".
