Date: July 22, 2024

The T-ALL Inspection Team successfully retrieved the inspector from the mixed oil pipeline of the Chongqing Branch Pipeline on July 22, 2024. With the ultrasonic probes of the inspector remaining intact and engineers confirming the completeness and validity of the inspection data, this marked the successful completion of the ultra-high definition bidirectional ultrasonic internal inspection for the Chongqing Branch Pipeline of the Southwest Pipeline, marking the eighth bidirectional ultrasonic internal inspection project undertaken by T-ALL Inspection.

The Chongqing Branch Pipeline operates in parallel with three lines: diesel, gasoline, and mixed oil pipelines. Commissioned in September 2002, these pipelines are designed with a pressure of 2MPa and made of L360 (X52) material, protected by a 3-layer PE external anticorrosion coating and sacrificial anodes. With a total length of 1.335 kilometers, the pipeline traverses one minor river and one railway crossing.

As the terminal station of the Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing refined oil pipeline, the Chongqing Oil Transmission Station has a large distribution flow volume that commences continuously upon startup, disallowing any obstruction, such as a stuck sphere, within the pipeline that might impede distribution. This posed a significant challenge for the on-site operation. In response, T-ALL Inspection collaborated with the client to devise a specialized emergency response plan. Specifically, emergency distribution devices were installed in the diesel and mixed oil pipelines, ensuring that in the event of a sphere getting stuck, distribution could continue through the mixed oil pipeline. The feasibility and reliability of this plan were subsequently validated through actual operation, demonstrating T-ALL Inspection Team's proficiency in tackling difficulties and responding to emergency situations.

This inspection encompassed a variable diameter pipeline, transitioning from 273mm to 219mm, presenting a complex scenario. The on-site team conducted a dedicated investigation into the variable diameter section and formulated a tailored handling plan. Upon reaching the variable diameter point, the sphere was halted and reversed back to the launcher, followed by pipe cleaning with a pig designed for variable diameters. Enhanced monitoring was implemented at the variable diameter point. Through meticulous operations, the inspector was smoothly retrieved from the pipeline with complete and valid data, presenting an impeccable report to the client and earning their unanimous praise.

Despite the sweltering heat, with daily temperatures peaking at 40°C, the T-ALL Inspection Team maintained peak efficiency. Commencing process modifications on July 12th and completing on-site operations and process restoration by July 23rd, the team accomplished this challenging task in merely 12 days, encompassing 17 rounds of sphere launching, receiving, and tracking. This achievement not only underscores the team's professionalism but also lays a valuable foundation of field experience for similar future projects.
