T-ALL Inspection Group Successfully Held Its First ECITB Flange Management Training Course

On May 13, 2025, following the official authorization of its training base in China by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), T-ALL Inspection Group, in collaboration with IKM Testing UK Limited, successfully conducted its first Flange Management Training Course.

The training attracted participants from four companies in the oil, chemical, and offshore engineering industries. Delivered entirely by ECITB-certified instructors, the course concluded with all trainees passing the ECITB certification exam, earning official qualification certificates. This milestone marks a critical and significant step for T-ALL Inspection in advancing flange management technology and international certification training in China.

ECITB-Accredited Training with Global Standards

As an ECITB-authorized training provider in China, T-ALL Inspection has developed a comprehensive technical training system in strict alignment with ECITB Mechanical Joint Integrity (MJI) standards (MJI 01/10/11/18/19/20).

The curriculum covers flange design, installation standards, sealing performance optimization, and full lifecycle management, with deep integration of international standards such as BS EN 1591 (Flange Design Methodology) and BS EN 1092 (Flange Types and Dimensions). The program is designed to elevate technical competency and safety awareness for industry professionals.

Integrated Theoretical and Practical Modules

Core Theory Module

The training provided a systematic overview of flange categories (e.g., weld neck, slip-on, lap joint), sealing face types (raised face, male-female, tongue-and-groove), and pressure rating classifications. It combined ECITB MJI standards with BS EN 1092 for detailed guidance on flange selection and installation.

Special focus areas included:

  1. Principles of Bolt Connection Technology
    – Based on ECITB manuals: torque equations, tension formulas, and lubrication effects on preload.

  2. Safety Protocols
    – ECITB HSE procedures: risk control and product sealing risk evaluation.

  3. Failure Diagnostics
    – Common causes of flange leaks (e.g., incorrect gasket selection, improper tightening, torque inconsistencies) and preventive strategies.

  4. ECITB Alignment
    – Step-tightening techniques and bolt load uniformity requirements from MJI standards.

Practical Operation and Certification Assessment

Trainees performed simulated flange assembly and torque tightening using manual torque wrencheshydraulic torque tools, and hydraulic tensioners, applying the stepwise symmetrical tightening method outlined in ECITB MJI standards.

Tiered Teaching Structure

  • Day 1: Manual torque techniques (MJI 10/11)

  • Day 2: Hydraulic tensioning (MJI 18)

  • Final Half-Day: Hydraulic torque tool application (MJI 19/20)

ECITB Certification Exams

  • Trainees were assessed through a written exam (torque calculations, standard application) and a practical evaluation (hydraulic tool calibration, sealing validation).

  • Successful candidates received ECITB MJI 01/10/11/18/19/20 certificates, valid for 24 months.

Integrating Global Certification with Localized Service

The training was conducted at T-ALL Inspection’s authorized training base in Chuanshan District, Suining City, Sichuan Province, achieving three major breakthroughs:

  1. Standard Authority
    – Fully aligned with ECITB MJI technical standards to avoid inconsistencies from mixed specifications.

  2. Flexible Qualification
    – Multiple module certifications (MJI 10/11/18/19/20) to meet diverse enterprise needs.

  3. End-to-End Service
    – One-stop service from training and hands-on operation to assessment and certification.

This successful training not only showcases T-ALL Inspection’s strong technical capabilities, but also contributes to the development of high-level talent in flange management, supporting safe and efficient pipeline operations across industries.

Looking ahead, T-ALL Inspection will continue to expand its training system, launching advanced courses to further standardize and internationalize flange management technology in China.
