On June 11, the Aotan 1 Well, a high-angle well with a vertical depth exceeding 9,000 meters in the Tarim Basin, was successfully completed by the Daqing Oilfield. The completed well depth reached 9,416.6 meters, with a vertical depth of 9,314.61 meters and a maximum well deviation of 61.5 degrees. The quality index passed with a 100% qualification rate, setting a new record for the deepest vertical depth of high-angle wells in carbonate reservoirs in Asia. This marks a significant breakthrough in ultra-deep drilling technology for carbonate rocks by PetroChina in areas of extremely high temperature, pressure, and depth.

Located in the Manxi Slope Zone of the Tarim Basin, the Aotan 1 Well is a key ultra-deep exploration well deployed by PetroChina in the Daqing Tadong Exploration Area. Drilling began on October 15, 2023, and the well traversed nine geological formations, including the Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, and Triassic, presenting complex geological conditions and demanding engineering requirements.

Daqing Oilfield attached great importance to the construction of Well Aotan 1, sparing no effort to promote exploration technology in the field of ultra-deep, ultra-difficult, and ultra-high-pressure exploration. The Xinjiang Branch of the Oilfield, Drilling Engineering Company, and relevant research institutions aimed at geological and engineering difficulties, adopting the "dissecting sparrows" approach, setting up "laboratories" at the wellsite, adhering to the principle of "one layer, one solution", optimizing high-temperature-resistant drilling tools, exploring well control technologies such as managed pressure drilling, gel plugs, and heavy mud caps, establishing a multi-well linkage mechanism, and adopting the method of experts stationed at the wellsite to strengthen the inspection of drilling tool defects, regularly replace and lower drilling tools, effectively ensuring the safety of drilling operations.

The construction of Well Aotan 1 was completed without any accidents, and achieved new breakthroughs in China National Petroleum Corporation's "Deep Earth Engineering" in terms of technologies and fine management, including speed-enhancing tools, directional tools, water-based mud, and special rock mineral logging. The relevant work responsible person from the Oilfield Xinjiang Branch stated that they will continue to tackle the oil and gas testing engineering technology under extreme geological conditions in the Daqing Tadong exploration area in the future, aiming to achieve the geological goal of unlocking ultra-deep-layer oil and gas resources.
